Overview

m84this—read from the phrase “made for this”—is the production and artist alias of Berlin-based musician Mathis von der Goltz. His practice moves between alternative hip-hop, German indie, electronic pop and sound design. Rather than separating composition from engineering, he often works across the entire production chain: piano and synth, programming, recording, co-production, mixing and mastering.

Biography

m84this works where the producer becomes a visible author. The Berlin musician Mathis von der Goltz moves between German alternative rap, indie songwriting, electronic texture and music for moving image.

His hands-on practice spans the full production chain. The strongest documented example is Beautiful (2025), created with Andre Droga: Droga leads the writing, performance and creative direction, while von der Goltz shapes its instrumental and technical architecture through piano, programming, recording, mixing and mastering.

His wider network includes collaborations with Rentnerotto, vini baby, maxgabriel, bishkek, AYBAE and Diemarcha, alongside sound work for short films, fashion and editorial projects.

Practice & Ideas

Production, performance and engineering form one continuous practice, moving from composition and programming through recording, mixing and mastering.

Moving-image work includes soundtrack collaboration on Sehnsüchte, music and sound design for An unreliable narration of the present, music for Helena Zengel meets AFFECT, and work as sound recordist on Einhornjagd / Unicorn Hunting.
